Reykjavik Winter Lights
Reykjavik Winter Lights
Info
Creature Post were invited to create two building projections for the annual Winter Lights festival in Reykjavik, Iceland. A very exciting proposition for us, an interesting proposition from down at the bottom of the world in the summer season!
Roles
- Creative concepting, design and animation - Creature Post
Serpent
Listi Ljosi Building - Serpent: Inspired by the stories of the Lagarfljót Worm, a serpentine form winds its way through the structure of the building. Other inspiration comes from Frank Herbert’s Shai-Hulud, Ouroboros and the work of Escher and Giger - channelling the unease that might be felt when encountering a large scaled serpent unexpectedly in an urban environment. The magic viewing spot where the illusion is perfectly resolved can be discovered by viewers as they walk around the building.
Views of Eden
Rejkjavik Building - Views of Eden: A mirage that presents a juxtaposition - in the the depths of Iceland’s winter there appears a hyper-real vision inspired by the lush jungles and gardens of the other side of the planet. Each vision is triggered by the appearance of norðurljós (the Aurora) which completely overtakes the structure before revealing another verdant scene. Eden is represented in many forms and moods and includes representations of the ferns, beech forests and hibiscus flowers of the South Pacific as well as inspirations from around the world.
